The new switch rod build is coming along nicely, and I have been focusing on painting the steelhead pattern this week. There are a few pictures below that show the process up to its current stage. There are still a few more colors to add, but the photos below will take you from the primer up to the addition of silver pearl and iridescent gold.
- Application of primer after masking the blank and grip
- Initial scale pattern applied with air brush
- Scale pattern after re-touching each scale by hand
- Scale pattern after some shading to blend the sections and reduce the appearance of the primer a bit
- The pattern after spraying with silver pearl and iridescent gold
Remaining colors to be added include transparent green, yellow ochre, wicked red, pearlized magenta, and white pearl. It’ll start looking more like a steelhead pattern as we progress into part 2 of the color scheme.
